On the evening of Saturday 5th October in the Rubino cinema hall of Cinema Anteo, all the prizes of the fourth edition of MAX3MIN were announced.

JURY AWARD - INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

The international jury made up of Séverine Petit (Project manager for Green Film Lab of TorinoFilmLab), Alessandro Del Re (senior Programming Manager for MUBI Italia), Virgilio Villoresi (Videomaker, animator and master in the art of handcrafting films) decreed the Top Five of the best titles of the International Competition:

Bagatelle

A Piece of Memory
by Chin-En Gau, Taiwan, 2023, 1’59’’

TESSA
by Sara Fabris, Italy, 2024, 2’59’’

Negative Rolls to Send Home
by Soha Parsa, Romania, 2024, 3’15’’

The Prize for the Best Film, for a value of euro 3,000 was awarded to Bagatelle by László Csáki, with the following motivation:
“Distinguishing itself as a fine example of impeccably paced and enveloping animation that recalls mixed techniques of collage and animated drawing, the film that we want to award is a continuation of the legacy of masters of experimental cinema such as Robert Breer and Jeff Scher, which is renewed here with an overpowering freshness of ideas that gives the film a unique visual energy.”

Special mention to the second prize to A Piece of Memory, by Chin-En Gau:

“For its ability to evoke through the means of cinema what is no longer visible in a small family elegy.”

NEXT GEN AWARD

The prize for the best film in the NEXT GEN competition, the section of the festival dedicated to films made by students at film schools, was awarded by three programmers of Krakow Film Festival, Barbara Orlicz-szcypula, Anna Waszczuk, Marta Świętek.
The technical prize - DJI Osmo Mobile 6 Vlog combo - went to the film:

A certain number of times
by Giorgia Ponticello, Jody Hinterleitner, Italy, 2024, 3'20''

with the following motivation:
“For a touching, deeply mature film showing the passing of time, the nature of memory and the intergenerational bonds, and for a refined visual layer in which elements of two orders are intertwined: the past and the present, making the film even more personal and moving.”

The jury also wanted to award a special mention to:
 
Cats are Liquid
by Natálie Durchánková, Czech Republic, 2023, 1'11"

with the following motivation:
“For drawing the spectator into a cat world where the laws of physics do not apply. For skillfully combining humour with excellent clay animation and for proving that the limits of a cat's (and human's) imagination are infinitely flexible.”

SEA AWARD - UNfasten your seat belt & Enjoy your time

[ UNfasten your seat belt & Enjoy your time ] is a new competitive section thanks to the Special Partnership with SEA Milan Airports.
The jury of SEA Milan Airports, composed of Barbara Mazzola, Laura Sogli, Patrizia Ruggeri, Carlo Stefani and Mario Ponta, awarded the short film that best expresses the theme "start your journey in a good mood, with a smile on your face!" in the form of a comedy, and has awarded the winner with a 1000€ prize:

“With lightness and humor, the author addresses important topics such as diversity, celebrating the uniqueness that defines each of us. A flight of imagination that combines the simplicity of animated language, accessible to all, setting the tone for a journey that begins with a smile.”

The  editorial team of Rolling Stone Italia, the main media partner dlof the festival, awarded a Special Mention to:

with the following motivation:
“A short animation that manages to become a socio-anthropological insight that is both ironic and very lucid on our public and private relationship with sex and intimacy. Forgetting that there is always someone watching us - and, perhaps, understanding us.”

The audience in the cinemas also had the chance to vote for their favourite films, and three short films were awarded were:

PREMIO DELLA GIURIA - INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

Il Premio per il Miglior Film, del valore di 3.000 euro, è stato assegnato a Bagatelle di László Csáki, con la seguente motivazione:
“Distinguendosi come un raffinato esempio di animazione dal ritmo impeccabile e avvolgente che richiama tecniche miste di  collage e disegno animato, il film che vogliamo premiare si pone in continuità con l'eredità dei maestri del cinema sperimentale come Robert Breer e Jeff Scher che qui però si rinnova grazie a una sopraffina freschezza di idee che conferisce al film una energia visiva unica.”

Menzione speciale per il secondo premio a A Piece of Memory, di Chin-En Gau:
“Per la capacità di evocare attraverso i mezzi del cinema ciò che non è più visibile in una piccola elegia familiare.”

NEXT GEN AWARD

Il premio per il miglior film del concorso NEXT GEN, sezione del festival dedicata ai film realizzati dagli studenti delle scuole di cinema, è stato assegnato dalle tre programmers del festival polacco Krakow Film Festival, Barbara Orlicz-szcypula, Anna Waszczuk, Marta Świętek.
Il premio tecnico - DJI Osmo Mobile 6 Vlog combo - è andato al film:

con la seguente motivazione:
“Per un film toccante e profondamente maturo che mostra il passare del tempo, la natura della memoria e i legami intergenerazionali, e per una stratificazione visiva raffinata in cui si intrecciano di tipologie di elementi: il passato e il presente, rendendo il film ancora più personale ed emozionante.”

La giuria ha inoltre voluto assegnare una menzione speciale a:

“Per trascinare lo spettatore in un mondo felino in cui le leggi della fisica non valgono. Per avere sapientemente combinato l’umorismo con un ‘eccellente animazione in plastilina e per aver dimostrato che i limiti dell’immaginazione di un gatto (e di un essere umano) sono infinitamente flessibili.”

SEA AWARD - UNfasten your seat belt & Enjoy your time

[ UNfasten your seat belt & Enjoy your time ] è una nuova sezione competitiva realizzata grazie alla Special Partnership con SEA Aeroporti di Milano.
La giuria di SEA Aeroporti di Milano, composta da Barbara Mazzola, Laura Sogli, Patrizia Ruggeri, Carlo Stefani e Mario Ponta, ha premiato il cortometraggio che meglio esprime il tema “inizia il tuo viaggio di buon umore, con il sorriso sulle labbra!” sotto forma di commedia, e ha assegnato al vincitore un premio di 1000€:

“Dove con la leggerezza e il divertimento l’autore è riuscito ad affrontare anche tematiche più importanti come la diversità, valorizzandone l’unicità che contraddistingue ciascuno di noi. Un volo con la fantasia che unisce la semplicità del linguaggio animato, accessibile a tutti, a una musica originale e coinvolgente, capace di fare iniziare il viaggio con il buonumore.”

Il film più votato dai passeggeri che hanno visto i film della sezione alla Porta di Milano dell'aeroporto SEA di Milano Malpensa è stato:

La redazione di Rolling Stone Italia, main media partner del festival, ha assegnato una Menzione Speciale a:

PREMIO DEL PUBBLICO

Anche il pubblico in sala ha potuto scegliere i suoi film preferiti e assegnare il Premio del pubblico a 3 cortometraggi:
