For the 2024 edition, MAX3MIN introduces a section wholly dedicated to immersive experiences and virtual reality: from Tuesday 1 to Sunday 6 October, the festival’s public will be invited to explore the new frontiers of narration and image through the six works of virtual reality in the Synesthetic Nostalgia programme. The immersive installation will be presented at Stecca 3.0 on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October, with an anticipation with free entry on the days immediately preceding the Festival in three pop-ups in the Isola neighbourhood (from Tuesday 1 to Friday 4 October at Festina Lente, Fiurì, Pastrengo Home).

Through virtual worlds and narrations in animation, the path explores the complexity of the feeling of nostalgia, investigating its nuances, ambiguities and emotional depths. The sweet and melancholic memory of a home or a neighbourhood that no longer exists (We live here by Rose Troche and Replacements by Jonathan Hagard) or the heartbreaking melancholy of a city that lives and resists only in our memory (All Unsaved Progress Will Be Lost by Mélanie Courtinat), virtual reality is identified as the emotional landscape of the desire for what is now distant and lost, and at the same time immerses us into a reflection of the sustainability of our daily life and the state of crisis that is extinguishing the natural world (Swarm by Maarten Isaäk de Heer, Songbird by Lucy Greenwell), inviting us to find once again an authentic relationship with nature (Origen - Journey to the Heart of the Amazon by Emilia Sánchez Chiquetti).
