Biography
Carlos Gómez-Trigo (Madrid, 1981) studies Filmmaking in Barcelona. He shot there a school short film, “Clase de baile”, winning the Young Artist Award from Castilla-La Mancha in 2009.
In 2008 he goes to India to work in two documentaries and then moves to Madrid, where he works as producer and director of commercials.
His Maelstrøm (2017), has more than 160 official selections in international festivals, winning several awards for best short film, director, performance or sound.

Director's notes
When I started to think about Maelstrøm as a visual concept, I was trying to make an exercise about the narrative use of zoom technique. No dialogues, one location and using codes from a western were my guidelines.
Beside that, I worked the concept line from exploring two ideas and takes them to the extreme. Obsession, as a pathological process, that makes a person feel trapped and make decisions that he would not otherwise have made. Intolerance, as a characteristic of our current society that
