Director's notes
This short film draws inspiration from Filipino culture, particularly the tradition of inviting someone to eat, a gesture deeply rooted in hospitality. However, within this warmth exists a cautionary tale passed down by elders—always politely decline and simply say thank you, as the inviter may not be what they appear. In Filipino folklore, there's a warning against accepting such offers, cautioning of supernatural beings known as "Engkantos" disguised as humans who lure you in with food, only to consume you thereafter.
In our short experimental film, this cultural warning is metaphorically linked to the political landscape of the Philippines. We depict a troubling reality where corrupt officials extend their hand in assistance, appearing helpful and kind on the surface. However, their intentions are far from genuine; their aid is merely a tactic to gain trust and ultimately exert control over others.
